A three-year programme of works at a school in North London has been completed by a major flooring contractor employing a wide range of specialist flooring products from TREMCO.
The South Camden Community School in Charrington Street, NW1, has been renamed Regent High School after undergoing a £25 million transformation, during which BAM Construction refurbished the old Victorian building on the site, as well as constructing extensive new teaching and administrative facilities. Craig Gargan, a Director of Middlesex Flooring, commented: “As a company, we have a long-standing relationship with TREMCO. We have frequently used TREMCO products due to their performance and the support that we receive from the technical team.
“In the case of the Regent High School in Camden, we were there from the beginning three years ago when BAM refurbished the old building and we have installed the flooring throughout the new facilities including the science arcade and new classrooms and communal areas.
“In terms of the flooring installation, this was a fast-track programme where we had to prepare floors quickly to allow installation and protection to proceed. We had to work closely with the main contractor to avoid disruption to other trades. Meanwhile TREMCO’s Area Sales Manager, Peter Fischer would visit site with me to put the spec’ together.
“We employed TREMCO as their products are compatible with the various conditions existing; quick drying characteristics and the need for compatibility with underfloor heating systems, for example. Amongst the useful advice was the identification of particularly porous screeds which were then primed to give better coverage with the DPM.”
Amongst the 10,000 square metres of different floorcoverings installed over the three years were vinyl, carpet tiles, marmoleum and rubber sheet and tile flooring. These were installed over ES100 One Coat Universal DPM and CS100 Epoxy Primer prior to the application of TREMCO smoothing compounds. ES100 provides a guaranteed surface damp proof membrane which is pinhole resistant ensuring the successful installation of floor finishes where moisture readings are above 75%. It is supplied as a two-part treatment that is straightforward to mix and easy to apply. SF108 was used to bond a number of the floor coverings. The product is EC1 compliant and had an exceptional coverage rate of up to 110
